SHOT SHOW 2024

The annual Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show was held this week in Las Vegas. This was my 6th consecutive year in attendance sponsored by www.spotterup.com,
Monday was media day at the range. It was a cold, overcast day with rain in the afternoon. Most of the usual suspects were in attendance: Winchester, Glock, Ruger... Lever actions were in abundance this year; Winchester, Henry, and even Aero Precision have new lever actions on the market this year. I think this is an interesting development. Why would an AR company release a lever action? Henry's new lever action takes AR magazines...
There could be a few reasons for this - one simple reason is that the market is saturated with AR's and the prevalence of lever-actions in movies and TV shows is driving renewed interest in this system. I'm not sure that's it. I suspect expanding product lines into non-semi automatic repeating arms lets them get into markets with legislative barriers against semi-autos.
There were still plenty of AR's and other semi-autos on the line, including the new UXR from Primary Weapons Systems. It's a modular rifle platform with a unique piston system. The recoil impulse is impressively light in the UXR and it's ability to change calibers quickly is a nice feature. I appreciate something innovative and new, but after spending a small fortune on specialized weapons systems, I've learned that repair and replacement parts for specialized weapons systems can be expensive and difficult to find, particularly if they're proprietary systems with no aftermarket support. The point being that while this is a fine rifle with some nice features, I don't know if I'd select it as my main survival rifle if I even need to fix it.
5-11 Tactical hosted some spectacular events at their Vegas location for members of the industry. They are strong supporters of the shooting and sporting community and they make great products. several of which I will be reviewing on Spotterup.com.
Lots of electronics at the show this year, electronic night vision technology and thermal is still a hot commodity finding its way into everything. Traditional night vision is still there and still expensive. Lots of Chinese technology at the show this year, not just electronics but optics, machine tools, machining services, clothing... The Chinese Government may love to publicly rant and rave about America getting rid of its guns, but they clearly have a vested financial interest in the Second Amendment for the time being.
I looked at a lot of ARs and accessories at SHOT show, no one else has a handguard and gas block system like ours. Centurion Arms has a handguard with a site cutout that works with GI sights, and it is a great product, but ours has features not found in any other handguard. Installation is quick and easy. If you are looking for a complete upper with our handguard system, let me know!

Do you know what I didn't see at SHOT Show? There is still no device, optic, electronic, or ammo that replaces correct shooting fundamentals. The shooter still needs to do their part if they want to reliably get the hits. Professional training is still the best way to learn the correct techniques to be reinforced with consistent practice. Training AND Practice are still both important, and still the only reliable path to proficiency. Our 2024 in-person class schedule will be published as soon as I can get range dates confirmed. In the meantime, we have the following on-line classes scheduled over the next few months:
