DESIGNATED MARKSMAN RIFLE
I've been wanting to put on a Designated Marksman Rifle/Special Purpose Rifle class for years and I finally got around to writing the curriculum. Most military Designated Marksman classes are several weeks. In this one-day curriculum, we have to focus on the capabilities of Designated Marksman-type rifles such as the RECCE, Mk12, Mk14, and M110. Any accurized AR with a magnifying optic in the 1-8X, 2-10X, or similar range will be ideal for this class. Accurized AR10's, M-14's or other semi-autos like the SCAR-17 are also good choices for this class.
For this class, we will be doing a fair amount of shooting in the prone position and field positions. You will want your rifle to be equipped with a bipod for this class. We will be talking about using natural and improvised supports like shooting sticks and tripods. This is an advanced class and it is preferred that you have already taken either a carbine or precision rifle class from us or another credible instructors.

This class will be held on July 20, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Fremont County Sportsman's Club in St. Anthony, Idaho.

GOT ANYTHING TO TRADE?
Would you like to attend a class, but don't have the spare cash for tuition or ammunition right now? Then let's make a deal: if you have shooting, tactical, or survival gear taking up space, I might be interested in a trade. You can clean out your extra gear for class tuition and/or ammo and it will help me help out other ADC Alumni who might need what you have. Fair game would be holsters, optics, gun parts and accessories (sorry, no firearms or receivers), anything in serviceable condition. Send me an email with what you've got to trade and we'll see what kind of deal we can work out that will make us both happy!

WARRANTY WORK
An Idaho client who purchased one of the Adaptive Defense Armory upper receivers recently reported having some issued with cycling. That's not a problem I am used to hearing about in one of my builds, so it deserved some investigation. Sure enough, when I test-fired the rifle, it wasn't cycling correctly...hmmmm.
After replacing the gas block, gas tube, and trying a different bolt, it was still cycling anemically. That ruled out those parts. On further inspection, I found evidence of a lot of gas leakage inside the front of the handguard...that's usual.
Look at the firing residue around the gas port in the barrel normally covered by the gas block. See how there's a lot of residue on the top half of the barrel but it stops about half-way down? Our gasblocks are specifically designed to seal extra tight in this area. I measured the barrel with calipers and sure enough, it measured "oblong" in this area.
At this point, I could have force-fed a few rounds through the upper and eventually carbon-buildup would have sealed off the leak and the rifle would have functioned, but who wants a rifle that will work eventually? Instead, I replaced the barrel and re-assembled the upper with the original gas block, gas tube, and bolt. Test firing resulted in perfect function - problem solved. The upper was returned to the client who is now happy with it.

I take great pride in products that have my logo on them. If you have problems with any Adaptive Defense Armory product, I'd like you to get in touch with me so I can get it figured out for you.

AMMO SITUATION
There are still grumbles in the industry about nitrocellulose shortages affecting ammo production and powder costs - and there's some truth to it - but ammo prices and availability are pretty stable right now. As we get closer to the presidential elections, social unrest, escalation of the conflict with Russia, etc... prices may fluctuate. When President Trump was elected in 2016, gun and ammo prices bottomed out. This worked out well for folks like me who wait for such times to "buy it cheap and stack it deep," especially after the Obama era in 2012, (amidst the end of the Mayan calendar and a number of other end of the world predictions for that year), when ammo jumped up to over $1.00/round for practice-grade .223. We haven't seen prices that high since, even during the Covid lockdown era. If you've been taking my advice, you've been stocking up little at a time over the past few years. As always, I will recommend you have enough for training and practice (bulk box ammo), defensive use (specialty stuff that is more expensive), and long-range/precision ammo (also on the pricey side usually.)

CLOSING THOUGHTS
If you are paying attention to current events at all, the drama and corruption on both sides of the aisle should be readily apparent. Narcissistic Reactive Abuse is the term psychologists use for when toxic people push their victims to the breaking point with relentless emotional, psychological and verbal attacks. Their goal is to get their victims to snap so they can then prove how “unhinged” the victims are. President Biden is doing this to the Russians by supplying high-tech US military munitions to Ukraine which are being used to attack targets on Russian soil. The political left is doing it to the political right by convicting Former President Trump in a very shady trial. The DOJ is doing it to the American Citizens by invading their privacy, and using restrictive administrative re-interpretations of law to expand the authority of government. Various special interest groups are also using these techniques to provoke each other... emotions are running very high. This emotional engagement pushes people out of the logical parts of their brains into the emotional, fight-or-flight monkey brain. Don't let yourself be manipulated this way. It is difficult, but try to stay emotionally detached to these situations. Especially don't let yourself be provoked to violence unnecessarily. There is a time for violence, but once that line is crossed, there's no going back and nothing looks the same after. Focus on defending yourself and family from the most realistic threats.
